Overview
The CWDM-GBIC-1590 is a workhorse transceiver designed for Gigabit Ethernet connections over long distances. It leverages coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) to transmit data at 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) on a single strand of single-mode fiber. This CWDM technology allows multiple Gigabit Ethernet connections to share the same fiber, reducing cabling costs.
Similar to its close cousin, the CWDM-GBIC-1610, the CWDM-GBIC-1590 offers a reach of up to 80 kilometers (50 miles), making it ideal for data centers, enterprise networks, and even metropolitan area connections. However, it operates at a different center wavelength (1590 nm compared to 1610 nm) within the CWDM standard.
There are some important things to consider with the CWDM-GBIC-1590. Compatibility with your network devices is crucial, and your network infrastructure needs to support CWDM technology with transceivers on both ends using different wavelengths to avoid signal interference.
